This weekend will see most of my cycle mad family up in Yorkshire to see Le Grand Depart. In fact there will be a Grand Depart by most of the shop’s customers as they struggle to find access to a viewing point where they will wait for several hours to watch the peleton stream by at an amazing speed, unless they are going uphill – in which case they will be going somewhat slower, but still faster than most of us could manage on the flat!They will then have to wait for a good while before they can start to make their way home! I know – atmosphere and all that stuff – but I shall be sitting at home. in a comfortable chair with a drink at my side and good food on tap, whilst I watch the whole proceedings on television. If it rains I shall be dry: if it’s sunny I shall be protected. I had my excitement standing outside Hampton Court in 2012, so this time I wish all enthusiasts ‘Bon Chance’, ‘Bon Voyage’ and all that jazz!! I just know that I shall have to endure the post-mortems next week ad infinitum every time I go to the shop! I’ll just keep on smiling and hope I win the Sweepstake.
